Alleys a Trend?

A little surprising to read an article in The Denver Post this weekend about new home builders creating more suburban communities with alleys. Sure - they serve a purpose and bring some of the downtown feel to the 'burbs, but is this really something homebuyers are asking for or just something builders think will take off? Seems that many buyers would prefer a bigger backyard to a dark alley behind their homes...Your thoughts?

Beginning Dec. 13, Fannie Mae will allow home buyers to use gifts and grants as their down payment on a single-family home. Up to 5% of the purchase price, given by family or other sources, can be used for the required down payment. Traditionally, buyers were required to produce down payments from their own funds. $8000 Home Buyer Tax Credit Extended for Military Families

Military families and active-duty service members currently living overseas now have until April 30, 2011 to take advantage of the first-time homebuyer tax credit of up to $8000. Service members who have been on qualified extended duty outside of the U.S. for at least 90 days qualify so long as they close on their new home by April 30, 2011.
