Is our personal information too accessible on the web?
Posted by on Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at 6:39pm.I received an email over the weekend warning about the level of personal information found on the web site spokeo.com. This site pulls information about employment, income, hobbies, interests, where you live, what your house is worth, photos of you, and more from social networking and other sites across the web. Most of us have much of this information on Facebook or other networking sites, but this site does not restrict access. Sure we want to be able to share photos and other info with our friends and family, but not to anyone searching the web.
I deleted my "profile" this morning, and I would encourage you all to do the same. If you go to www.spokeo.com, and click the "privacy" link at the bottom, then follow the instructions. I was completely shocked when I saw the information on this site that pertained to my personal life, and you may be too.
